What else do you need for school?

The Bible talks about a sense of wonder.

Wonder is that feeling of excitement you have when you learn something new. Wonder is the feeling of curiosity and happiness when you see something amazing that God has created.

God loves your mind. God loves it when you are feeling curious and creative and eager to learn and do new things.

Here are three Bible prayer-songs for back-to-school week to celebrate a sense of wonder.

Part 1: Wonders in the Night Sky

Thousands of years ago, people looked up at the sky and felt a sense of wonder. When they saw the stars, they looked for shapes and patterns and named the constellations.

Who created the night sky? This is from the book of Job, Chapter 9:

God alone stretches out the heavens
and God walks on the waves of the sea.

God is the Maker of the Bear and Orion,
the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.
God performs wonders that cannot be fathomed,
miracles that cannot be counted.

God gave us the night sky. He also gave us our imaginations to see pictures and patterns in the sky.

Can you imagine people long ago looking at the night sky, finding patterns, and wondering about God?

Part 2: Nature is a Teacher

The Bible says that one of the greatest teachers ever is totally silent. This teacher teaches people without ever saying a word. Who is this teacher?

This is from the book of Psalms, Psalm 19:

The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.

They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.

Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.

This teacher is the earth and sky. God created the earth and sky. And God gave us intelligent minds, so that we can learn from studying nature.

Can you imagine the earth and sky talking to you, teaching you things?

Part 3: Happiness

This is from the book of Psalms, Psalm 65:

The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
Where morning dawns,
Where evening fades,
You, God, call forth songs of joy.

One of the great sources of happiness is the sense of wonder from learning about the good things God has created. Can you picture the whole earth having this great sense of happiness?
