Calling the Twelve Disciples

Jesus travelled around Israel, teaching and healing. Many people travelled with him, listening and helping. He chose twelve of his followers to be disciples to help him in this work.

These are their names:

Simon (who is called Peter)
His brother Andrew
James son of Zebedee
And his brother John
Philip
Bartholomew
Thomas
Matthew the tax collector
James son of Alphaeus
Thaddaeus
Simon the Zealot
Judas Iscariot

Jesus gave them instructions:

"Go out to the cities and towns of Israel. Proclaim the message: 'The kingdom of heaven has come near.' Heal the sick, just as I have. Freely you have received; freely give."

Discussion: The disciples are the "building blocks" of God's kingdom.
These days, we are also like the disciples, meaning we are also the building blocks for God's kingdom.

Craft: Making blocks.

  • Block pattern on cardstock paper
  • clear tape
  • pictures to cut out and glue to the sides of the blocks
  • glue sticks
  • pens
