Good Advice

In the years after Jesus, churches started all over Israel, Greece, Rome, North Africa and many other places.

There were teachers and leaders, called apostles, who helped the churches get started.

They traveled from city to city, visiting churches and writing letters of advice. These letters are published in the Bible.

Here is advice from one of Paul's letters to one of the churches:

1. Rejoice in the Lord always.

2. I will say it again: Rejoice!

3. Let your gentleness be seen by everyone.

4. Do not worry about things.

5. Instead of worrying, pray about it. Give thanks to God and ask for his help.

6. Notice that when you pray, the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

7. Finally, brothers and sisters,
whatever is true,
whatever is noble,
whatever is right,
whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely,
whatever is admirable -
if anything is excellent or praiseworthy -
think about such things.
